LASIK vision correction
Several of our middle-aged patients whom we follow at OCULUS Eye Centers regret having missed their chance to have LASIK eye surgery when they were younger.
For these patients, our experienced ophthalmologists have good news: it’s usually not too late to have surgery for myopia, astigmatism, hyperopia, or presbyopia. Age is no barrier to LASIK. If a patient is interested in LASIK, we advise them to ask their doctor if they are a good candidate for the procedure, regardless of their age.
The only age limit for LASIK is that patients must be 18 years of age or older, which means that it’s possible for a patient to be too young for refractive surgery.
LASIK Suitability Assessment
All patients must be examined to determine their eligibility for LASIK. LASIK is contraindicated in patients with unstable myopia, a thin cornea, or certain health conditions.
At OCULUS Eye Centers, many of our patients in their forties, fifties, and sixties have benefited from laser eye surgery. The procedure is safe and effective for patients of all ages. The only way for patients to know for sure if LASIK is right for them is to have a laser eye surgery specialist examine their eyes and overall health and make an individual recommendation based on that evaluation.
What if LASIK isn’t suitable?
Fortunately, patients who are not good candidates for LASIK can benefit from other refractive surgery techniques. Indeed, our patients, especially those with presbyopia, can benefit from lens replacement surgery, which represents a safe and lasting long-term solution for a life without glasses.
